Your impact

You will be the architecture owner and a hands-on delivery lead. Ship the production stack, harden security, and scale the product to serve 50+ enterprise issuers in the first year. This role blends product partnership, engineering execution, and people leadership — a chance to define system boundaries across smart-contracts, microservices, and front-end gateways while owning SLAs, DORA metrics, and security posture.

  • Define architecture, ADRs, and threat models across on-chain & off-chain systems.
  • Translate merchant requirements into sprint-ready epics and measurable outcomes.
  • Ship production code and lead code reviews (Node / Go / Rust preferred).
  • Run external audits, adversarial game-days, and vulnerability disclosure programs.
  • Build, hire, and mentor teams that thrive on velocity + reliability.

What you’ll do (Responsibilities)

  1. Own system architecture across smart contracts, services, and gateways; write and maintain ADRs.
  2. Ship and maintain production systems, run CI/CD, and monitor performance/observability dashboards.
  3. Coordinate security audits, manage vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance for payment/loyalty flows.
  4. Recruit and scale engineering teams; establish hiring bar, onboarding, and engineering rituals.
  5. Partner with Product, BD, and Token teams to align technical roadmap with go-to-market goals.

Experience & Requirements

  • 3+ years leading teams ≥10 engineers (hiring, coaching, org design).
  • 8+ years architecting cloud-native, event-driven systems; deep experience with queues (Kafka / NATS / PubSub).
  • Proficiency in at least one: TypeScript/Node, Go, Rust, or Python; strong async & concurrency patterns.
  • Hands-on with modern React (Next.js), performance optimization, and frontend architecture.
  • Cloud infra knowledge (Terraform / CDK, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP) and observability (OpenTelemetry, Grafana).
  • Security engineering fluency: OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, key management (HSM / MPC), threat modeling.
  • Web3 fundamentals (≥2 yrs): EVM JSON-RPC, token standards, stable-coin economics; at least one mainnet smart-contract deployment.

Nice to have

Zero-knowledge proofs or account-abstraction exposure, prior experience in loyalty/payments, or data-infra experience (ClickHouse, dbt) are big pluses.

Benefits & Culture

  • Competitive salary + significant token allocation.
  • 100% remote with quarterly on-sites; strong focus on work/life balance.
  • Healthcare benefits (where applicable) and flexible equipment reimbursement.
  • High media exposure opportunities — speak at conferences and podcasts.

If you’re a systems architect and hands-on engineering leader who loves shipping mission-critical systems at scale, this VP of Engineering crypto job at Spree is a rare chance to shape a payments primitive used by millions. Apply with your resume, GitHub (or portfolio), and a short note on the largest system you architected.
